'Will anyone make it through this snow?' I thought on my way down to the old D&P tonight. But, with the exception of Paul Gerrard who was stuck in Middlesborough (the humanity!) all the acts and enough of an audience turned up to make the night a cosy gig. Dan willis took on compere duties and got us warmed up (though everyone still had their coats on.) First up was a real treat, John Scott (winner of the biggest prize in comedy £12,000 for Take the Mic) came down to try out the first rough sketches of what may become his Edinburgh show this year. It's lovely to have a real pro on the stage now and again. These first rough etchings would knock the finished products of many comics into a cocked hat.
Sharon Race (head honcho at the Telegraph's Laughing Lasses comedy night) plucked recent highlights from the Autumn telly schedules. Anne Widicome on Strictly came in for a special beating. Ben lowes Smith (looking the wintry gent in his aron sweater) got a bit surreal with his '3 cheeses go into a pub' joke. Baby of the bunch was Nicola Mantilios Lovett on her 3rd gig, brash and confident- was this a character or is she really like that? Nicola is half greek, so a greek-off was held with George- and she won!
We finished with a round of just a minute- but with Gaz - our stand in nicolas parsons- unavailable, something was not quite right.
FULL-JUST A MINUTE + Sharon Race,Paul Gerrard, Ben lowes-smith,Nicola Mantalios-lovett.THEME:Drugs.
