April 29th -Long Live Comedy rubbish movie consortium
A special night - we showed King Kong Escapes on the Big Screen, and Pete, Cal and Al pointed out all the flaws in this awful film. Inspired by the Bad Film Club A brave comedy experiment, a late start (after the computer failed and Pete went home for his playstation) and a few sore bums after 80 minutes on bar stools. There were some great moments. My favourite was when the submarine stopped. 'This looks suspicious' said Pete 'I think they've got some ulterior motive for surfacing here' - Sure enough, the sub comes up, the hatch opens and the captain gets out and has a fag.
May 6th Geeks
Five acts this week- though not the 5 we expected. We had 2 people who didn't show up but they were replaced by 2 professionals who just happend to be in the area. Score! So Dan Willis and John Smith (pictured) gave a pro polish to the start and end of the show. Rob Gilroy is becoming another LLC regular who's doing great things. Every few weeks he's back with a new charachter and so far they've all been brilliant. And in the mix as usual a couple of new guys trying things out. Steve Robertson looked confident before, but fell apart slightly (Yes, Steve, it is harder than it looks.)Eddie O'Dwyer (a pint sized Simon Amstel - if that's possible)looked nervous before but did a well written and nicely performed little set. But hats off to all for trying - from the newbies and the big boys and of course the people who come to watch.
